Squirrels, BSO's, Life ...

Genealogy consumes me!  And I love it!  So many family history publishings, genealogy podcasts,  genealogy everything on YouTube, super educational and fun conferences and symposiums, volunteering at the FHC, local library .. I love them ALL!!  I've become a gatherer of family names, family stories and genealogy how-to's.  I have become the conqueror of 'Amateur Genealogy' with a lot of tiny information surrounding me and my office !

So after listening to an inspiring podcast I came up with "Robin's 100 Days" (So original, right?!!)
Started a Google Doc with that title, and whenever I come across a 'genealogy to-do' or a 'great genealogy idea' it goes on the list.  Some take longer than one day.  Some take a couple of hours.  And now, with all those squirrels (and baby Robin birds hatching) and bright shiny objects and lots of life events I stick with a numbered item on my 100's list !!  BTW... Blogging was number 27 and I moved it up to number 5 so I can keep record of my progress more efficiently !  And, I have skipped around a little when asked or required to fulfill a request such as learn Fold3 so I can give a lesson on it to the Avon Lake public library or traveling and it happens to be where an ancestor lived.

Beginning in March 25th-ish I worked on #1 on my list which is FS Memories.  When I was out in Broomfield, CO I taught Jaime how to put a picture in Memories on FamilySearch.org and then record a memory under that picture.  In her case she took a picture of her and Pepper after breakfast - gave it a title ... and now I went into her page ... I'm not seeing the recording under the picture of their voices !!  hummmmm ... must remedy that!

"Auntie" Cleo May Robinson

My Mom – Beverly Jean Robinson with her great Aunt Cleo May Robinson
Cira 1949 in Phoenix, Arizona

Auntie, as I know her name to be, was my mom’s angel.  At age 16, Auntie sent Beverly (my mom) a train ticket – California to Missouri – to come live with her in Missouri and Arizona.  Beverly was given things she never before was able to have.  A wardrobe, car, braces for her teeth, boyfriends, college education and so many other splendid opportunities of life.  Auntie did marry for a very short time and after a divorce resumed her maiden name.  She owned a hotel, was a traveling button sells woman across America and traveled to many destinations all over the world.  I am thankful for her.  I believe not only did she change my moms life, but changed the lives of all future generations that follow in our line.  She was an amazing woman and I hope to learn more and share often.

Ready, Set, Go ...

It is amazing to me as I seek information and insights on my ancestors that they actually took that huge, giant, life-changing step and left their lives in Europe and came to the land of  freedom... America! After crossing the ocean most did end (or start) on the American East Coast. And then it took only a generation or six to work their way to California. Ahhhhh California the farmland of sun and opportunity. After visiting many areas of origin in America, I see how the weather, climate, land availabilities and work have influenced their souls to "Go West". My husband, Rob Falke and I now live right next to Lake Erie where the winters are soooooo cold. Right in "the Ohio". Which is where some made it their home for a generation.  This is my attempt to write and document family history as I enter data which my mom, Beverly Jean Robinson McCleskey so skillfully and articulately accumulated for the past 30 years and more.  She worked on the family tree and lots of pictures and dad, Billy Joe McCleskey made a few old photo albums and took the time to preserve their memories of their present families and ancestors.  This is my eternal "Robby" and me In-the-Woods aka our back yard in Avon Lake, Ohio, USA
